FRANK SINATRA-THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC
By Jan Warren Allen CA- December 1998
Francis Albert Sinatra, known as the "singers singer" came into this world on December 12, 1915 at 3:00 AM in Hoboken New Jersey.
Frank was certainly a study in contrasts and contradictions from early on. He refused to start breathing at birth and the doctor gave up on him. However his mid-wife grandmother took him and held him under the cold-running water faucet, which evidently shocked him into finally taking his first breath. Singing is based on breath control. So he went from not being able to breath at birth, to later, as a young singer, developing fantastic breath control. He learned this as he watched and analyzed Tommy Dorsey's breathing while he played his trombone when he sang with his band. This was one important ingredient in his ability to find his own unique sound, which ultimately lead to his great success.
With Frank's Neptune at 02 Leo 19 R conjunct the midheaven only 1 degree later, and his south node at 10 Leo 48 and his Mars at 27 Leo 34 in the 10th house of career, being on stage was totally natural for Frank. In fact, it was the only thing he ever wanted to do. With this Leo emphasis then, it is no wonder he was eventually referred to as the King! These placements lead him to be extremely generous, fun-loving, and a flamboyant extrovert.
However, his Mars at 27 Leo 34 in the 10th house forms a T-square to the 2nd and 8th house cusps at 26 Scorpio 28 and 26 Taurus 28 respectively, so he could also get surely and ornery. He said, "Don't tell me...suggest," and often went to violent and opposite extremes. The signs of the T-square also tie into some of the serious health problems he would have later on in his life. They were Leo (heart), Scorpio (bladder cancer), and Taurus (vocal chord hemorrhages).
His Sun at 19 Sagittarius 13 conjoined his Mercury at 17 Sagittarius 10 in his 2nd house which gave him luck and intelligence, and also a reputation for being outrageously outspoken. Add the other fire placements which I have just described, and we see a man who had the utmost confidence in himself, and his abilities and goals right from the beginning. In fact, this natural Sagittarius confidence was one main ingredient in his eventual phenomenal success.
Frank's ascendant was 28 Libra 22 and it indicated that marriage would be a major issue in his life. His Venus at 11 Capricorn 56 conjoined his part of fortune at 14 Capricorn 16 in his 3rd house, and both opposed retrograde Saturn at 14 Cancer 52 in the 9th. This was the clue that he wouldn't get that satisfaction and contentment until later in life. And it seems that his fourth and last wife Barbara finally filled that niche nicely for him. With such a late degree in Libra on his ascendant, almost the whole sign of Scorpio went through his 1st house also however.
The good news was that Pluto (the masses) at 02 Cancer 32 R in the 9th house formed a grand trine to the ascendant (out of sign) and the Moon (the public-his mother) at 05 Pisces 07, just a degree shy of the 5th house (entertainment) cusp. So this was the promise that he could one day win great world wide acclaim.
His fantastic early magnetism and sex appeal was another important ingredient which allowed him to eventually wield great power, wealth, and influence in the world. He was bestowed with a swagger and nonchalance that was absolutely charismatic and irresistible to people. And again, this is related to the enormous amount of Sagittarius self confidence he had in himself.
The bad news however, was that Pluto at 02 Cancer 32 R formed a T-square to the 6th and 12th house cusps at 05 Aries 09 and 05 Libra 09 respectively, which could bring out a dark side in him at work, and on other levels at times also. When he was working (6th house part of the Aries T-square), he was very impatient, and insisted in doing everything in just one take. In fact they called him "One-Take Charlie." And the 12th house (the Libra part of the T-square) reflected his many sexual dalliances, and a few heart breaking romances along the way in his earlier life.
Add to that his very volatile Sicilian temper; plus the fact that although he was born a huge baby, when he grew up they referred to him as a bantamweight with a bow tie, as he was so small and thin; also factors which could have brought out a cocky, crude and downright ugly side to his nature, which erupted from time to time.
The aforementioned grand trine involving the Moon/ Pluto/ascendant (out of sign) shows us what an important role his mother played in his life. Any girl he was seriously interested in had to be screened by her, usually at a spaghetti dinner at her house. And all of the women in his life had to measure up to her in some manner.
Besides the other more upbeat qualities we have already looked at, the Moon at 05 Pisces 07 was also inconjunct Neptune at 2 Leo 19 R. This gave Frank a fragile, sensitive, and moody quality which he also displayed all through his life. The Piscean qualities manifested in Frank having severe ear infections from his Neptune age of 2 years old to around his Moon age of 5 years old. Because of this, he had a series of mastoid operations around then.
He also felt very lonely being an only child. Later, his Moon placement described his first big hit. It was the very dreamy, romantic, but slightly melancholy "I'll Never Smile Again." his Moon in Pisces subsequently brought forth "Put Your Dreams Away", "Christmas Dreaming" and "If You Are But A Dream."
What Frank was experiencing at 5 years old affected the events in his life when he 27 years old, his Mars age. The T-square involving Mars and the 2nd and 8th house cusps tied into the fact that he was rejected for military service then because of a punctured eardrum. This was disappointing news to him, as, indeed, he never realized that he had a hole in his ear. It stemmed back to the many mastoid operations he had as a little boy. Since there were no antibiotics in those days, this ailment was a common problem with children of that era. As a matter of fact, my older brother had the same thing, and suddenly ended up almost deaf when he got into his 40?s
The physical problem with his ear is another Sinatra irony, because, as they say in the business, musically he had a natural, perfect "ear". His intonation was impeccable, as was his diction and phrasing. He also had a tremendous amount of just the right feeling which he captured in his expressive changes of timbre.
Jupiter at 19 Pisces 53 in his 5th house closely squares Mercury at 17 Sagittarius 10, and the Sun at 19 Sagittarius 13 almost exactly. Since he had the sign of Sagittarius on the 3rd house cusp (siblings), this ties into the fact he did not have any brothers or sisters. This was reinforced by Venus in the 3rd house opposing Saturn in the 9th also. The Jupiter part of the square also indicated that his formal education would end early. And indeed it was over by the time he was his Mercury age,17, at which time he went out into the world to try to establish a singing career; and without much luck at the very beginning! He even worked as a singing waiter for awhile.
The retrograde Saturn (father) Venus (money) opposition relates to the fact that his father wanted him to stay in school and go into something traditional and substantial, which paid well, like engineering. He certainly didn't think much of his son wanting to be an entertainer. When Frank wouldn't listen to him, he more or less told him to go out in the world then, and try to make his own way. With Saturn being retrograde, along with its opposition, Frank was always trying to prove himself to his father. So this aspect gave him much of his drive and motivation, which was another important ingredient to his eventual success.
When Frank was 19, his Sun age, he met his first wife Nancy. She not only encouraged him on, but also was able to help him somewhat financially. Between the two of them she was the one who had a steady job. Frank had to pass that age, which was connected to the 19 degrees of his Sagittarius Sun square to Jupiter at 19 degrees of Pisces before he started to get better opportunities.
Five years later however, the country was about to come into the bobby-sox era, and the teen age girls were about to discover their idol "Frankie." He was thought by many at first to be just a temporary teenage phenomenon, so he wasn't taken very seriously by the more sophisticated cafe society crowd, however.
Frank continued to hone his craft and establish his reputation as a successful money maker by his middle twenties. But it took until his Mars at 27 Leo 34 to get triggered at 27 years old to get the next big break he was looking for. Mars went on to trine the 7th house cusp at 28 Aries 22, and Frank finally started to get the more permanent success and recognition he knew would be his someday, all along.
It seemed that Frank had paid his dues by then, and was finally accepted as a bona fide singing star by all age groups. He went on from there to be very successful as a natural actor and dancer in the movies as well. Again, we can attribute this also to his Pisces Moon grand trine. He even dabbled in painting some, along the way.
Everything he touched turned to gold until the late forties. Mysteriously, however, his marriage and career started to go into a slow decline, which became a historic nose-dive. As you can imagine, this was hard to take for the hero of the great American success story.
Furthermore, he fell in love with Ava Gardner then while he was still married, and Nancy refused to give him a separation. This hurt his popularity to some extent, and people were beginning to say he was over the hill, and past his prime. Some of the insiders attributed his fall to the fact that "he's been telling everybody to go to hell since 1943."
His mouth, no doubt getting him into trouble because of his Mercury/Sun square Jupiter combination. He had a history of altercations, both verbally and physically, with many members of the press, both in this country, as well as Germany, and Australia. And some of these even resulted in ridiculous, childish law suits.
Remember, his Mercury (the press) was also inconjunct Saturn at 14 Cancer 52 in the 9th house of foreign matters and law suits. His timing was suddenly off, as the songs he refused to record during that period became huge hits for other singers. Johnnie Ray and Eddie Fisher suddenly were the hot new singers who were in great demand then. Frankie Laine, Billy Eckstein, Nat("King") Cole and Vaughn Monroe were able to churn out hit after hit as well.
Furthermore, transiting retrograde Pluto (the masses) at 15 Leo 46 was opposing his progressed Uranus(unstable) at 14 Aquarius 29 about then.Transiting Saturn (stability) in Virgo (work) would be coming up to form a T-square to his natal Jupiter which was square to Mercury/Sun. And transiting Jupiter in Pisces that year would add its influence to the aforementioned square.
Furthermore, transiting Neptune (unrealistic) at 15 Libra 26 (love relationship) also retrograde, was in a T-square with his natal retrograde Saturn at 14 Cancer 52 (long standing)/Venus at 11 Capricorn 46 (marriage), and his part of fortune (good luck) at 14 Capricorn 16. All of these stressful aspects explain what was happening, or what was not happening in Frank's life then.
And Frank had the transiting north and south nodes conjunct his progressed 6th and 12th houses respectively at 05 Aries 58 and 05 Libra. And the progressed part of fortune was at 04 Pisces 08. So convert the 4 to age numbers, and add 30 to that and we get to his 34th year, when both of these aspects point to a health problem.
As we would expect, Frank had not been feeling well; probably from working too hard and living too fast! With that backdrop, then, on the night of April 26, 1950, the transiting Sun came to 6 degrees of Taurus, and was coming up to square the progressed nodes at 8 degrees and 58 minutes of of Leo and Aquarius respectfully.
Frank was singing at the Copacabana then, and all of his problems, mental, emotional and physical evidently hit him at the same time. Taurus rules the throat, and when he opened his mouth to sing at the third show of the evening, nothing came out. He suddenly and completely lost his voice due to a vocal hemorrhage, and in sheer panic, he ran off the stage clutching it! This was one time he was truly at a low point in his life, like a "whipped dog."
It was a good thing that progressed Jupiter, the ruling planet of his Sun and Mercury and such an important influence in his life, was at 2 Pisces 02 and trined his natal Pluto at 02 Cancer 32 R. So his vocal chords did heal up, and there was no permanent damage done to them.
During this period his songs described his depression however. Instead of the euphoric songs like "People Will Say We're in Love, and "Oh What a Beautiful Morning", which he recorded when his popularity was soaring in better years, he then recorded more melancholy and forlorn tunes such as "It's a Blue World", "No One Cares, "In the Wee Small Hours", and "I'm a Fool to Want You."
It was not commonly known that Frank suffered from manic-depression. It is even said that he tried to commit suicide over his failing marriage to Ava during this dark era. Certainly his stressed natal Mercury, the natural ruler of the mind conjunct the Sun from 17 Sagittarius 10 and 19 Sagittarius 13 in the 2nd house of values so closely squared to Jupiter at 19 Pisces 53 (the sign of sorrow) in the 5th house of romance would attest to. Besides this he had added stress from the opposition in the mental 3rd house between his Venus and Saturn in the 9th, and the Saturn inconjunct Mercury. It is interesting then, to see how his natal and progressed charts manifested in his life experiences, and how these in turn correlated to his choice of music at different periods in his life.
While Frank was down on his luck and broke, his new wife Ava was instrumental in getting him the part of Private Angelo Maggio in the movie ?From Here to Eternity?. He also pushed a lot of buttons to get the part as his progressed Venus at 28 Aquarius 11 trine his natal ascendant at 28 Libra 22 attests to. Convincing his friends that he was perfect for the part paid off for Ol' Blue Eyes, and he won an Academy Award for it in 1954. This really turned the tide, and his career around. In fact he had managed to make one of the greatest comebacks in show business history!
He was happy, and on top again, and later in the 1950's he entered his swinging, ring-a-ding-ding period. He recorded the more upbeat, finger snapping songs like "Come Fly With Me", "I've Got the World on a String" and "Come Dance With Me." In fact, his recordings of the 1950's established him so well financially, that he felt he had conquered everything he could in show business. So he started to broaden his horizons, and looked for new interests.
He found one in the area of politics. He was a life long Democrat to start with, and was introduced to John Kennedy in 1958 by his friend Peter Lawford. This was the infamous Rat Pack era in Frank's life, and Peter Lawford would later join the group. Frank decided to help John Kennedy get elected in 1960.
It is said that Joe Kennedy, John's father asked Frank to ask his Chicago friend, Sam Giancana to help them with the presidential campaign. Sam was the head of the Teamsters Union and wielded a tremendous amount of power. Sam agreed, but in return Frank had to promise to perform periodically for nothing in Sam's night clubs, which Frank did, as did Dean Martin as well.
At the time of the election, when John Kennedy won, on November 8th, 1960, the transiting Moon came up to 19 Cancer 40 to trine Frank's natal Jupiter at 19 Pisces in his 5th house. I'm sure there was much celebrating going on that night; especially since it was such a close election. Transiting Uranus then was at 25 Leo 35 and conjoined Frank's progressed Mars at 25 Leo 36R within just one minute of arc. That was a tremendously up-beat and exciting time for him. Now, instead of being called the "King", Frank began to be called the "King Maker." So he felt that he held an esteemed position in the Democratic ranks starting at the very top.
Frank's progressed chart for January 19, 1961, the night before President Kennedy was inaugurated is interesting, in that his progressed Moon was at 15 Libra 21 in his progressed 12 house (behind the scenes). It went on to trine his progressed Uranus (politics) at 15 Aquarius 05 in his progressed 4th house, indicating that these rather new friends he made were exciting for him to be around, and with his Moon in Libra, he wanted to help them as much as he could. So Frank was the behind the scenes guy who got all of his friends to perform in a huge preinaugural party that night.
However, transiting Mercury (travel) at 9 Aquarius (unexpected) squared transiting Neptune at 11 Scorpio that night. A terrible snow storm hit Washington that afternoon, and because of the weather, the gala turned out to be a disappointment. Only a third of the invited guests, about 6000 people, were able to get there.
Frank's progressed Venus at 07 Pisces 35 (hidden) opposed transiting Pluto (power and control) at 07 Virgo 43, and by then the transiting nodes at 8 Virgo 20 and 8 Pisces 20 respectively were closing in and reinforcing this opposition. So behind the scenes there were some rumors and rumbles that some high ranking members of the administration disapproved of Frank's style, and his reputation. They didn't feel comfortable with all of the power and influence he seemed to have with the President elect either.
This aspect tied into the fact that Robert Kennedy, who was a Scorpio, and was represented by the aforementioned transiting Pluto didn't like Sam Giancana because of all of his alleged underworld activities. And when he got to be the new Attorney General, he decided he was going to take on organized crime and eradicate it; and that was going to be his great claim to fame! He felt that Frank was too intimately connected to the Mafia and this could eventually come back to haunt his brother.
But on March 25th, evidently Bobby finally had his way, as an announcement was suddenly made that for security reasons the President would not be stopping at Frank's compound after all. He would stay with Bing Crosby, who was a long standing Republican, instead. This was like a slap in the face to Frank which he never got over.
Frank's progressed Moon by then had moved up to 1 Scorpio 11 (Robert Kennedy and the Secret Service) in his 1st house and squared his progressed Neptune (disappointment) at 1 Leo 09 R near his 10th house cusp.
The transiting Moon that afternoon came up to 25 Scorpio to square Frank's progressed Moon at 25 Leo 09 R which describes the terrible disappointment and anger Frank felt. it is said that he had a huge tantrum, and wrecked much of what he had especially built for the occasion.
What put the final nail in the coffin then was transiting Saturn at 8 Aquarius 53 conjunct Frank's progressed south node at 8 Aquarius 20 in the 4th house of his home.
Frank's progressed Uranus then at 15 Aquarius 09 was conjoined by the transiting south node at that degree, also in his 4th house, and in Uranus's abrupt fashion, it ended his close connection to the Kennedy s forever.
Progressed Jupiter at 26 Pisces 46 in the 5th house was inconjunct transiting retrograde Uranus (his friend) at 27 Leo 04 which conjoined his natal Mars at that degree wasn't a helpful aspect either. This was a bitter pill for Frank to swallow, and he was totally devastated by the sudden snub.
Also a month earlier that year Frank also got engaged, then unengaged from Juliet Prowse. She also spurned him, as she was not about to retire and give up her very successful career, as he insisted that she do after their marriage. In fact, this was also a problem between him and Ava Gardner, and Mia Farrow as well. These problems were also indicated in his natal Venus (women marriage) /Saturn (career) opposition.
1963 turned out to be traumatic for Frank as well, with the assassination of the President, his former good friend, on November 22, 1963. This is shown in his chart by his progressed Uranus at 15 Aquarius 14 getting squared by transiting Neptune at 15 Scorpio 55 in his 1st house. And besides that Frank's progressed Moon had moved up to 24 Scorpio 18 to square his progressed Mars at 24 Leo 35 R.. And in the next two days, transiting Mercury which was 9 Sagittarius 45 in his 2nd house would come up to square his progressed Venus at 11 Pisces 19 in his 5th house. I'm sure he was totally devastated, as much of the world was. In fact, Frank's friends said he was so shaken over the assassination, he was not even able to go to the funeral; and just stayed in his room, alone for three days!
Then 16 days later, on December 8th, Frank's son, Frank Jr. was kidnapped. He was Frank's second child, and would have been represented by Frank's 7th house at 28 Aries 22 by using the derivative house method. So Mars then would have to be examined. Progressed Mars was at 24 Leo 34 R, conjoined to the progressed part of fortune only 10 minutes farther along, and squared to the progressed Moon at 24 Scorpio 55 close to the financial 2nd house cusp.
The sign of Aries was also on Frank's 6th house cusp, and transiting Mercury in the 3rd house of communication was coming up to 05 Capricorn to T-squared Frank's natal 6th and 12 house cusps at 05 degrees and 09 minutes of Aries and Libra respectively.
Transiting Venus (money) at 11 Capricorn then, and also in the 3rd house was conjunct Frank's natal Venus at that degree and opposing progressed retrograde Saturn at 11 Cancer 07 in the 9th house (the media). This was a frenzied major event then as law enforcement worked endlessly to get him back, and the media relentlessly followed the story.
The transiting Moon in the early degrees of Libra (other people) had come up to form a T-square to Frank's natal Pluto (life and death) at 02 Cancer 32 in the 9th house, and transiting Mars at 02 Capricorn, again in the 3rd house.
This turned out to be a real scary situation, as the kidnappers demanded $240,000 in used bills as ransom, which Frank raised to get his son back. However, in the end, the authorities not only caught the kidnappers, but also recovered $239,832.29 of the ransom money. All of the distressing events which started in 1962 were also tied to his mid-life natal Mercury/Sun square Jupiter age. Remember, we add 30 years to the original degree numbers; and the square aspect was triggered once again in Frank's life. This was from about ages 47 to 49, when all of these prior events took place. During that same period, Jupiter working on a legal level caused the state of Nevada to Frank's gaming license.
And besides that, as Frank was approaching his Sun/Jupiter age, the foreign influence of Jupiter in Pisces, a water sign almost extinguished his Sun (his life) permanently, as he almost drowned in the ocean in Kauai, Hawaii during the filming of None But the Brave.
Progressed Saturn at 04 Leo 18 squared transiting Uranus at 03 Scorpio 02 then also, which played out in Frank not wanting some of his good friends to be there. The transiting Moon then was around 24 degrees of Capricorn trining transiting Jupiter at 24 Taurus 11 in the progressed 7th house of marriage. With these earth signs involved,it seemed like this marriage would last, finally.
There was a total Solar eclipse later that year on October 23, 1976 which was only a degree past Frank's natal ascendant at 28 Libra 22, the marriage sign, so this certainly seemed like the right year for him to marry again.
I remember this event very well because I felt personally connected to it somewhat. My background is that of a professional musician in the entertainment business. I was playing at a Dinner Theater club in Milwaukee at that time, which was owned by a friend of Sinatra, who also had the first name of Frank. Suddenly, out of the blue, we were informed that the next day that we were going to have Frank Sinatra's "people" for a week. That was what his touring group was referred to!
It seemed that Frank, who had just gotten married, wanted to go on a honeymoon, but wanted to keep his "people" working. As far as I could tell, all that arrangement took was just one telephone call. With no advance advertising, a major heat wave in progress, a theater which was not air-conditioned, and streets around the club practically blocked off due to major city repairs, they all arrived right on schedule.
Comedian, Pat Henry was Frank's opening act at the time. Sam Busatari, who played with Louie Prima for years, and the rest of Frank's band, plus assorted others made up the company. As I remember it, it was like a private party for the whole week, because it was only the in crowd that realized what was happening. The fact that there wasn't much business didn't seem to bother anyone, so to pass the time, we spent most of it entertaining each other. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and unforgettable experiences for me in all of my years in the entertainment business.
Dolly used to say that her son was like her in that if anyone ever crossed her, she would hold a grudge and never forget it. No doubt, this was due to her Saturn at 26 Scorpio 36 and her Uranus a degree later conjoining Frank's natal 2nd house cusp (values) and squared his natal feisty Mars at 27 Leo 34. And indeed, they both had formidable tempers. Frank evidently got his moxy from her also, as it is said that she was one tough lady, with the mouth of a longshoreman. With her Mercury in the no nonsense sign of Capricorn in her 1st house, she was the one who gave the orders, and was the boss in her family.
Her Moon at 19 Virgo 34 squared her Neptune at 18 Gemini 27 R. This made an almost exact mutable grand cross with Frank's Sun at 19 Sagittarius 13 and square his Jupiter at 19 Pisces 53. It is no wonder then, when he was born, she was disappointed that he wasn't a girl. She had bought a lot of pink baby clothes, so she just dressed Frank in them until he outgrew them. She was also against him going into show business in the beginning. But when she died, on January 6, 1977, she was flying out to see Frank perform in Las Vegas.
The next set of aspects for that time tie into Frank's chart, and are fascinating to see. Her progressed Moon at 21 Leo 43 one degree past her natal 8th house cusp squared transiting Jupiter at 21 Taurus 18 R which in turn formed a T-square to Frank's progressed Sun at 21 Aquarius 21 in his progressed 4th house. Dolly's natal Venus at 16 Aquarius 11 conjoined his progressed Uranus at at that degree and was opposed by transiting Saturn at 15 Leo 27 R. Her progressed Venus at 08 Taurus 44 squared Frank's progressed Mercury (travel) at 08 Aquarius R. Her progressed Mars at 27 Gemini 26 squared Frank's progressed Venus at 27 Pisces 18 in his 4th house.
Finally, transiting Mercury then at 14 Capricorn 54 R conjoined Frank's natal part of fortune at that degree and opposed his natal Saturn at 14 Cancer (his mother), and this went on to square transiting Pluto at 14 Libra 10. So with those terrible aspects working then, Frank really lost the "love of his life" that night.
One more aspect reinforced everything; that was Frank's progressed Moon. It was at 26 Taurus 36 in his progressed 7th house and went on to T-square his progressed 4th and 10th house cusps at 26 degrees and 04 minutes of Aquarius and Leo respectively. So the stage was set then, and when fiery Mars at 04 Capricorn was approaching Dolly's natal Sun at 05 Capricorn 15 in her 12th house, the crash ended her life.
To backtrack a little in time, however, Frank announced his retirement on June 13, 1971 as his progressed ascendant moved down to 14 Scorpio 09 to square his progressed Mercury at 14 Aquarius 37 R. His progressed part of fortune at 13 Sagittarius 06 was sitting on his progressed 2nd house cusp (his values) and had squared his progressed Moon in the last month at 13 Pisces in his 4th house. I think he just reevaluating what he was doing and was just plain tired and worn out about then.
Progressed Uranus at 15 Aquarius 41 conjoined his progressed Sun at 15 Aquarius 43 in his 3rd house, so he needed some freedom and space then, and said he just wanted to take his watch off and not have to worry about time constraints.
Besides that transiting Jupiter at 29 Scorpio R in his natal 2nd house of money opposed transiting Saturn at 29 Taurus 24 in his 8th house and this formed a T-square with his natal Mars at 27 Leo 34 He just wasn't having any fun performing then anymore. And by then, he certainly didn't need the money!
However, it is interesting to see that by November 18,1973 when his progressed Moon came up to 17 Aries 32 in his natal 6th house of work and trined his natal Mercury at 17 Sagittarius, he was back in business again, full of vim and vigor and raring to go. He was on a TV special titled Ol' Blue Eyes Is Back.
The Voice, as he was called, continued to work until his 79th year. When we add 30 years, plus another 30 years to 17, his Mercury age, this comes up to 1994-95. So this time he truly did finally came around full circle to what he started out to do at 17 years old, so he retired again; this time for good.
In Frank's life-time, especially as he mellowed with age, he concentrated more on humanitarian and charitable affairs. He won much acclaim and many prestigious awards because of these endeavors. It is said that with his own personal contributions, plus what he raised for charity, it all added up to one billion dollars in all.
Frank Sinatra died on May 14, 1998 at 10:35 PM in Los Angeles. Transiting Pluto in his progressed 1st house at 07 Sagittarius 03 R squared his progressed Moon at 07 Pisces 29 in his 3rd house. Transiting Uranus then at 12 Aquarius 44 opposed his progressed Mars at 12 Leo 22 R (heart problems) from the 3rd to the 9th house with the transiting part of fortune conjunct his Mars at 12 Leo 43.
Transiting Mercury at 00 Taurus 12 (the voice) came up to square Frank's progressed Neptune at 00 Leo 15 R in his progressed 8th house of life and death matters.
Finally, it is ironic that at that time, the transiting Moon came up to 05 Capricorn 47 to conjoin Frank's progressed 2nd house cusp at that degree; conjoining his mother's Sun, also at that degree. So hopefully she was close by on the other side, waiting for him, so that they could be together again.
Besides his chart, which bestowed him with great charisma, showmanship, superb taste in music, and professional excellence, there is something else which contributed to his great staying power. And which also helped to make Ol' Blue Eyes a one of a kind American Icon as well.
It can be seen in the chart of the U.S.. That is in the chart for The Articles of Confederation, which is the one I use. The date for it is November 15, 1777, 12:46 PM, York, Pennsylvania. It is the suggested U.S. chart of astrologer David Solte.
The Chairman of the Board's natal natal Venus at 11 Capricorn 56 conjoins the U.S. south node, as well as the U.S. Mars. Furthermore, his natal Saturn at 11 Cancer 54 R conjoined the U.S. north node at that degree in the U.S. 5th house and went on to trine the midpoint of the U.S. Mercury/9th house cusp.
Even the T-square of his ascendant and 7th house cusp at 28 degrees and 22 minutes of Libra and Aries T-squaring the U.S. Pluto at 28 Pluto is ruled by Scorpio, and this aspect ties into the episode of Scorpio, Bobby Kennedy coming into the picture and black-balling Frank because of his alleged ties to the Mafia, which of course, is Pluto ruled also. But Frank's Mars at 27 Leo 34 conjunct the U.S. Jupiter at 25 Leo 45' went on to trine Frank's natal 7th house cusp. Capricorn couldn't completely undo him.
From the beginning, Frank had an uncanny way of making an easy, direct and personal link to everyone who listened to him or watched him. He also captured the mood of the times which everybody was able to relate to.
During World War 11, when most of the husbands, lovers, boyfriends, and many women as well, were away from home fighting the war, his recording of "Saturday Night is the Loneliest Night of the Week" became a huge hit. It is a good example of the universal feeling which permeated the nation at the time, and which he was able to tap into.
Ol' Blue Eyes truly touched the heart and stirred the soul of America. His aforementioned Venus aspect in the U.S. chart allowed him to strike a chord in the nation that continues to resonate, and which promises that the man and his music will endure forever.

A few weeks ago, I posted an article about the important transits that were coming up in the U.S. chart I follow: the one for the signing of the ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION, show above. I felt that Jupiter would represent Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
As transiting Jupiter at 21 Scorpio was forming a T-square to the 1st and 7th house cusps, as well as being reinforced by progressed U.S. Venus, he was under tremendous criticism and unpopular. The transiting Moon (women) then in Leo was at the midpoint of the U.S. and progressed Jupiter: explaining the opposition of many groups of protesting women. The transiting Sun was at 12 Libra was squaring the U.S. natal Mars at 12 Capricorn, showing that the much of the public was opposed to group who was in power (Capricorn).
However, as I pointed out, as soon as transiting Jupiter passed that and came up to trine the U.S. 6th house cusp and the progressed U.S. Sun at 21 & 22 Cancer, the tide turned in the Judge's favor and he received enough votes on Oct. 5th, and was confirmed today, October 6th: as transiting Jupiter reached 23 degrees of Scorpio to conjunct the U.S. Sun in the 9th house.
